Lys: A Change In Fortunes

|
No words were spoken on the journey- Aithne imagined it would be a great wonder if he ever spoke more than two words in a day. No getting information out of him, even if she was impertinent about it.

Suddenly she hears a cry from ahead. She looks up, and is startled to see the girl on horseback, from before. She's leading the pony now, said mount carrying large bundles of wool felt on its back.

So, another servant, then? She seemed either an equal of or else superior to the man next to her. Aithne had determined earlier that her buyer must be a slave himself, though a high-ranking one. But this girl continued to defy explanation. The two regarded each other, and Aithne wondered if she was allowed to speak to the girl.

"Where are you from?"

Well, I suppose that answers that question. "Ibernia." she said. "I am Scotti." She could not keep the note of pride from her voice. She was Scotti, and proud of it, even if what it truly meant to be Scotti had begun to fade long ago.
Then she realized the girl was most likely above her in the household, and belatedly added, "Miss."
