"Now, come with me," the Guttersnipe told Domitia. "And remember that you are a slave."
~~~~~~~~~~~
Aithne was taken aback. "So are you" she wanted to say. But it was only a split second before she realized what the Guttersnipe meant. How the girl meant to pass herself off as important, dressed as she was, was beyond Aithne, but she had no better plan, so she went along, keeping her eyes lowered. It was hard. Her natural instinct was to do exactly as the Guttersnipe was doing- put on a brave face and dare them to challenge her. It was hard to look both meek and unfearful at the same time. Once more, Cu came to her rescue. Behind him, she became some hair and a skirt following the proud young lady.
They made it to Master Lucius without incident- Cu managing to eke through as the door slammed. Aithne stood by and listened, not understanding. Obviously there was a meaning here, and she was the only one who didn't know it.
It was only a moment before Gwenhwyfar took the lead and began directing everyone. Aithne heard the Lady say that she was to go along, and she froze, wide eyed. She was to go? She, who knew the least of what was happening? She looked to Master Lucius, worried for him more than herself. But Wulf was there, and he was a much better protector than she could be. Still... she bowed her head over the dog's. "Stay here and see to my master. I'll be all right." In the bustle, she had but a moment to quickly say "Master Lucius, sir, this is Cu. He will protect you if you have need." before she had to run after Gwenhwyfar.
As they arrived at the courtyard, Aithne could not help but look at all the men assembled. A frightening bunch, she was oddly fascinated by them. Then one particular face made her jump and turn away. "My lady... my lady, I know that man..." As unobtrusively as possible, she motioned towards a Celt amongst the Gauls.
Her jaw clenched. "He was the one who sold me over-sea."
I hope that doesn't throw a wrench in things. I can change it if necessary.
Perhaps Stew will be appeased in some way.
I don't know if you meant the big man, or someone else. The others are all Gauls. Only the Attacottiman is native to the area. But I don't mind either way. It ties things together nicely.
