Jenny: Bird in the Hand

Almost before he could move, the slave-holder and spirited the girl off the block and was taking her back through the crowd. Mm, Wulf thought, and set off at a brisk pace following them. The girl resisted weakly, as if she knew she had to resist but had forgotten the reason why, and in a short span of time he had caught up with them both, and swung round to face the owner.

"I want to make an offer on that girl," he said.

Leading Firefly with her heavy burden back down into the square, the Guttersnipe stood up on tiptoe to look about for Wulf. The girl was no longer on the block and the two big blond fellows were in the middle of being sold. I wonder if he bought the girl already and went back. If I hurry, I might catch them... She brandished her riding crop, took Firefly's halter, and moved toward the back of the crowd.
