Druce also turned and looked at the figure flying toward them, and at her words he returned Jason's helpless gaze with arched eyebrows. He considered leaving, but it was too late; the woman had caught their exchanged looks and understood them, and she launched into her reckless apology with a concentrated disregard for Druce's presence.

He himself had no notion of what she was apologizing for - some indiscretion toward the Guttersnipe, he guessed from Jason's set face. He pulled back slightly to give them room, but continued to watch them out of the corners of his eyes.
