Lys: A Lie

|
There seemed little or no forgiveness in Jason's words. She hated the words "Apology accepted". All they meant was "Thanks for acknowledging you were wrong". They were a way of forgiving without forgiving, and it hurt worse than the looks he had given her before.
It was veneer, a false forgiveness, a lie. And she hated lies.

His parting words made no sense to her. "Mark"? As in take note of? Immitate? Take heed of? The oddities of Latin still confused her at times.

So he left her standing in the rain, confused and upset, with two boys watching her like dogs watch a rabbit. Gathering her strength, she turned to the older and asked in a low, controlled voice, "Where is the Guttersnipe?"
